Celebrate Earth Day with Stanley Martin Homes

It's Earth Day tomorrow and we are super excited to show the world what we do to contribute to our beautiful planet.

Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson. 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day to protest the industrial revolution. Every year on April 22, people make an effort to help the earth by collecting garbage, planting trees, cleaning up coral reefs, show movies, sign petitions and plan for the future of our beautiful planet.

Did you know?

Unfortunately, the U.S. buries or burns over 166 million tons of resources in landfills and incinerators including paper, plastics, metals, glass and organic materials.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 75% of the America waste stream is recyclable but we only recycle around 30% of it.

How can you help? Recycle.

By recycling you can help prevent pollution, conserve natural resources, save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emission, help sustain the environment and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.

How is Stanley Martin helping?

We aren't just "green" one day a year, we are green every day of the year. Not only do we deliver green benefits to our homeowners we make a commitment to the environment through water usage, the usage of sustainable materials and recycling.

We use ENERGY STAR® rated appliances and programmable thermostats, Kohler low flow toilets, faucts and showers and use ENERGY STAR® qualified front door and low emissivity glass windows with argon gas. Not only are we helping preserve the environment, but these efforts help you save money on your energy bills.

We use recycled materials in our homes whenever possible so that we can help sustain a better environment for the earth. Through our Green Living Program, every new Stanley Martin home receives a certified Home Energy Rating Score (HERS) Index rating. The lower the rating, the more money you save.

Stanley Martin homes are about 48% more energy efficient than resale homes and around 38% more energy efficient that other new homes.

If you look at the table to the left you can see how we measure up with resale homes and other new home builers.

Here at Stanley Martin, we care about our carbon footprint and we make sure to build our homes the green way, so Happy Earth Day everyone!
